EMIKO JANE ISHII
Founder, Artistic Director and Choreographer
MY STORY
My fascination with Bollywood/Indian Dance emanated in 2004 after watching Maudhri Dixit dance in a highly acclaimed Bollywood feature film “Devdas”. Her expressions and technical movements were mesmerising, which resulted in me starting Bollywood Dance Classes. After some time I joined the Threebee dance company where my professional career in Bollywood Dance began.
During my studies at King’s College University in London I ventured to Santa Barbara University in California, where I joined the Hindi Film Dance Team and competed in National Bollywood Dance competitions under choreographer Nakul Dev Mahajan. Introduction to Classical Indian dance in the US encouraged me to undertake Kathak in the UK and since then I have been training under Sri Pratap Pawar.
Teaching dance is my opportunity to increase confidence in others, share the skills I have learnt over the years and to promote a healthy lifestyle generations to come.
MY AIMS
• As a dancer, my goal is to share the love of dance with my students, dancers and spectators.
• As a teacher my focus is on strong technique, body awareness as well as expressing oneself through movement whilst having fun.
• As a choreographer I aim to create unique and thought-provoking fusions. Especially with my background in a variety of styles including ballet, hiphop/street dance, Bellydance, Nihon Buyo (Japanese traditional Dance), Kathak and Bollywood/Bhangra.
